Cork SHC: Sars and Douglas into last four

September 06, 2014

Sarsfields's Joe Barry, Daniel Roche, Eoin Quigley and Ray Ryan tackle Michael Power of Bishopstown during the Cork SHC final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh

Sarsfields and Douglas have secured their places in the Cork SHC semi-finals after accounting for St. Finbarr's and Youghal respectively.

2012 champions Sarsfields were comfortable 3-20 to 1-16 winners over St. Finbarr's in the first of today's quarter-final double-header at Pairc Ui Chaoimh. It was level pegging until former Wexford star Eoin Quigley's goal propelled the winners into a 1-4 to 0-4 lead after 10 minutes.

An Eoin Keane goal for the 'Barr's on 20 minutes reduced the deficit to the minimum before Tadhg Og Murphy struck at the other end to give Sars a 2-10 to 1-9 half-time lead. The result was never in doubt after that with a third goal from former county star Kieran 'Fraggy' Murphy sealing the win for Sars.

In the second game, Douglas - who dethroned Midleton last week - put on another impressive display to overwhelm last year's 'premier' intermediate champions Youghal on a 2-20 to 1-9 scoreline.

First half goals from Alan Cadogan and Cork footballer Mark Collins gave the city side a 2-10 to 1-4 lead at the break.

Sarsfields will meet the winners of the Newtownshandrum v Na Piarsaigh quarter-final, while Douglas will take on the winners of the other quarter-final between Glen Rovers and Ballymartle. The remaining two quarter-finals will be played at Pairc Ui Chaoimh next Sunday.
