The 1955 All-Ireland senior hurling championship medal won by the legendary Nicky Rackard has been sold at an auction for €17,500 this evening.
It was the first senior All-Ireland medal won by Rackard when Wexford defeated Galway 3-13 to 2-8, and had a pre-auction value of between €5,000 and €7,000.
The Killanne native was regarded by many as one of Ireland's all-time great players and was included on the 'Hurling Team of the Century'.
The auction took place at the Fonsie Mealy rare book and collectibles sale in Dublin today.
