Tipperary and UL registered victories in today's Waterford Crystal Cup preliminary round games.

In Nenagh, Lar Corbett was among the goals as Tipp walloped LIT by 3-20 to 0-5. Shane Bourke sent the home side on their way with the opening goal after just five minutes. Seamus Callanan added a second from a penalty 10 minutes later to help Eamon O'Shea's men to a commanding 2-8 to 0-1 interval lead.

The highlight of a low-key second half was Corbett's major in the closing stages as the Premier County progressed to a quarter-final meeting with Kerry next weekend without breaking sweat.

There was a surprise in Carrignore where UL defeated Waterford by 1-11 to 0-10. With Shane O'Sullivan in fine scoring form, the Deise led by 0-6 to 0-4 at the break, but a goal from Galway's Jonathan Glynn turned the tide in the students' favour after the restart as Derek McGrath's first game in charge of Waterford ended in defeat.

Brian Lohan's UL will face WIT in the quarter-final next weekend.
