Ponchos to become latest GAA fashion?

John Evans believes teams would be better served if their substitutes wore ponchos rather than tracksuits when the new black card rule comes into effect tomorrow.

The Roscommon manager says the new rule - which will see players who are black carded replaced by a substitute - won't allow time for the player coming on to change out of his tracksuit.

"The speed of substitutions is now crucial," the Kerry man stressed in the Irish Examiner.

"It could prove very costly if managers delay in getting a player in to replace a black carded player. All teams will have to have a routine worked out whereby they know what players are coming in if a defender is black carded or a forward is black carded. You could easily see a situation where a team is down to 14 men for the guts of three minutes while they are getting the sub ready to replace the black carded player.

"I think you will see a lot of players wearing ponchos in the New Year, something easy that they can whip off. Managers certainly won't tolerate tracksuit bottoms and tops laced with zips."
