Sligo have joined Galway in calling for changes to the format of the Connacht minor football championship.

At the recent Sligo convention, the St. Michael's club proposed the introduction of a round-robin series in the championship. The motion proposed that the two teams that reach next year's provincial final should automatically qualify for the semi-finals in 2015, and that the remaining three teams should play in a round-robin system to qualify for the semi-finals.

The motion, which was supported by county secretary Gerry O'Connor, is aimed at providing more games for young players in the province.
Three motions calling for the introduction of a backdoor system in the championship were also passed at the Galway convention. They will now come before the Connacht Council for consideration.

Unlike their counterparts in Leinster and Munster, there is no second chance for teams who have been beaten in the Connacht and Ulster minor football championships, with the exception of the provincial runners-up, who qualify for the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
