Former GAA mascot lines out in FAI Cup final

There was a large contingent from the Brownstown hurling club in Westmeath cheering on Drogheda United in last Sunday's FAI Cup final defeat to Sligo Rovers.

For Drogheda's right back Mick Daly is the son of former Brownstown and Westmeath hurler Michael Daly, who won numerous county titles with the club during the eighties and early nineties.

Mick was mascot on the Brownstown team that last won the Westmeath senior hurling championship in 1993 and although he brought luck to the side on that occasion, it was not to be last Sunday as Rovers recorded a memorable 3-2 win.

Daly had been on the books of Manchester City for five years, before being released and upon his return home, he joined Drogs' rivals Dundalk. The talented defender took some time out to travel to Australia, and upon his return joined Drogheda.
