Carlow SFC final: O'Dwyer masterminds Old Leighlin win
October 14, 2013

Old Leighlin's Willie Minchin
Old Leighlin 1-10
Rathvilly 1-8
Former Kerry and Kildare footballer Karl O'Dwyer managed Old Leighlin to their third Conlon Cup in four years at Dr Cullen Park.
Pat Hickey produced a man of the match performance as the winners got the better of Rathvilly by two points. The outcome might have been different had James Clarke not pulled off a tremendous save to deny Patrick Byrne with seven minutes remaining. Old Leighlin will now face St. Loman's of Westmeath in the first round of the Leinster club SFC on October 27.
Cathal Coughlan's sixth-minute goal helped the winners to build up a 1-3 to 0-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Rathvilly had to wait until the 17th minute for their opening score from Gary Dempsey, but they finished the first half strongly with Brian Murphy's 27th goal ensuring them of parity, 1-4 each, at the break.
In a tense second period, Seamus Kinsella scored three points from play while Pat Hickey also raised a couple of white flags as Old Leighlin prevailed.
