Tyrone Centre of Excellence opens today
September 28, 2013
The official opening of Tyrone GAA's £7 million Centre of Excellence will take place later today.
Fittingly, the opening of the 43-acre county GAA centre in Garvaghey coincides with the 10th anniversary of Tyrone's first All-Ireland senior football title win. The project, which got underway in 2008, is one of the most ambitious sporting and cultural developments ever undertaken in Ireland.
The state-of-the-art facility boasts five high quality grass pitches, a full-sized 3G surface, a multi-purpose training area, an auditorium, fully-equipped gyms, physio and meeting rooms, administrative areas, catering facilities and a purpose-built changing room area with ice baths.
Around £1.5m of government money was provided for the project with Tyrone GAA coming up with £3m from their own fund-raising efforts and Croke Park also contributing to the cost.
Every club and every school in Tyrone will have access to the new centre, which will be the envy of many sporting organisations.
