Tipperary hurling star Eoin Kelly is mourning the tragic death of his uncle in Australia.
Eighty-two-year-old Tommy Kelly, who left Mullinahone for a new life Down Under over 50 years ago, was killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident in Melbourne last Sunday. An athletics coach, the deceased returned to Ireland regularly and took great delight from seeing his nephews Eoin and Paul win All-Irelands with Tipp.
James Kelly, who is Eoin and Paul's father, told the Irish Independent: "He went out to Australia in 1956, the year Ronnie Delaney won in the Olympics.
"He was a PE teacher and was very much into athletics. He was a good runner and a good hurler. He was very much into athletics and the young people looked up to him."
