Limerick SHC: Kilmallock dethroned by Na Piarsaigh

September 16, 2013

Limerick's Shane Dowling
Na Piarsaigh withstood a late onslaught from champions Kilmallock to reach the Limerick SHC final at the Gaelic Grounds yesterday.

The city side were leading 2-12 to 1-9 when they had county star Kevin Downes sent off on a second yellow card in the 53rd minute. Kilmallock threw the kitchen sink at them after that, but Na Piarsaigh held on for a 2-13 to 2-12 victory, having laid the foundations for their success in the opening half when goals from Shane Dowling and Kevin Ryan helped them to a 2-10 to 0-6 interval lead.

Na Piarsaigh's final opponents will be Adare, who edged out Doon by 2-17 to 2-15 in the other semi-final. Adare, who won a three-in-a-row of county titles between 2007 and '09, showed their experience when scoring three unanswered points in the closing three minutes to get over the line.

Doon led by 2-11 to 1-9 after playing with the aid of the strong wind in the opening half, but Adare never looked back after Declan Hannon netted in the 48th minute to restore parity at 2-13 apiece.
