Phelan linked to Royal role

London hurling manager Eamonn Phelan
London supremo Eamonn Phelan is tipped to become the new Meath hurling manager.

Sources have told hoganstand.com that Phelan was interviewed for the position last Tuesday night and the Kilkenny native is thought to have impressed the four-man committee that includes Meath legend Sean Boylan.

Phelan's CV is impressive to say the least as he guided the Exiles to Nicky Rackard and Christy Ring Cup glory in successive years, while overseeing them in the Leinster SHC as well as guiding them to NHL Division 2B final victory over Meath this year.

The Royals are on the look out for a new manager after former Offaly All-Ireland winner Cillian Farrell stepped down from the position in the wake of their Christy Ring Cup semi final defeat to Down.

Phelan is not the only candidate for the position as former Meath player Paddy Kelly, Ex-Westmeath hurler Pat Clancy and Waterford native Nick Fitzgerald, who was a selector with Farrell this year are all believed to have been interviewed also.
