Qualter quits Rossies

Roscommon hurling manager Seamus Qualter
Seamus Qualter has stepped down as Roscommon senior and U21 hurling manager after four years in charge.

Following a poor league campaign this year, the Turloughmore native led Roscommon to an unsuccessful Nicky Rackard Cup final appearance against Donegal at Croke Park. His finest hour with the Rossies came 12 months ago when his 6/1 underdogs shocked Kildare to win the All-Ireland U21HC 'B' final in Thurles. However, the Lilywhites avenged that defeat in last month's All-Ireland semi-final, which proved to be Qualter's last game as manager.

Before taking the Roscommon reins, Qualter had a successful spell in charge of his adopted Westmeath with whom he played in the 1990s. As well as guiding them to Christy Ring Cup wins in 2005 and '07, he masterminded a famous Leinster SHC victory over Dublin in 2006.
