McGourty rubbishes return talk

Kevin McGourty insists he has not returned to the Antrim senior football squad.

Rumours began to do the rounds yesterday that the St Gall's ace had been recalled by Frank Dawson but he has poured cold water on these stories by pointing out in today's Irish News:

"There is absolutely no truth to that at all. There was training last night and a number of boys went back, but I certainly wasn't one of them.

"The rumours that I am back are totally and utterly false at this present time. I have had no contact from Frank at any stage."

However, were such a call to come, McGourty says he would answer in the affirmative: "Yes, definitely, I would go back.

"I am 30 years of age, the same as Sean Kelly [who has returned]. Realistically, if he was to ask me to go back, this would be the last dance given the age profile of modern footballers.

"I want to give it one last shot. It is sad to see what has gone on in terms of going down to Division Four. If I can help out in any way, no matter how big or small, I would like to go back for one last opportunity.

"Antrim are seven or eight weeks away from a championship game and I feel if I could go back in over the next two or three weeks, I would certainly have enough time to bed in and help out.

"The ball is very much in Frank Dawson's court at the minute."
