'Climb 4 Conal' goes global
April 17, 2013

At the launch were back row: Barney McAleenan, Benny Coulter, John Clarke, Catherine McGourty, Ciarrai Connor, Brendan McVeigh, Karen Tinnelly, James Cunningham. Front Row: Ronan Campbell, Matthew Carville, Darragh Baldwin.
Melbourne will host a unique GAA match between Mourne and the Rest of Ireland in support of the 'Climb 4 Conal' event organised by An Riocht and Chest Heart & Stroke on Sunday 5th May.
The An Riocht club has lost over thirty players to emigration in Australia including fifteen of the squad which won the Down SFL in 2007 but the ties with home remain strong and the players far away are keen to do their bit for this worthy cause.
Conal Baldwin was just 12-year-old when he passed away suddenly on Christmas Eve 2012 from a heart related disease. Conal's life was simply GAA and Camogie, his facebook status said "GAA is my life."
Conal played Gaelic football for An Riocht and Hurling with the Mourne Hurling Club and at school in St. Marks Warrenpoint where Conal captained the team. Conal was the Down Feile skills winner in 2010, and his 125 project "My GAA Hero, me and my dad" took first place in the Down schools project competition. Conal followed his dad Joe everywhere when his dad managed Down, Queens, and Antrim camogie teams; Conal knew every player and them him.
On 12th May this year the An Riocht club in partnership with Chest Heart & Stroke will be holding a "Climb 4 Conal " from Donard park to the top of the stunning Slieve Donard mountain. You are invited to attend the event or help in any way to commemorate Conal's life: to register to take part in the 'Climb 4 Conal' simply log on to www.climb4conal.anriocht.com or telephone 07921829544 or 07752857924 or 02841763681 (An Riocht club); follow us on Facebook: AnRiochtCLG or Twitter: @AnRiochtGAA
On Friday evening, 19th April, at 8.30pm (immediately after SFL An Riocht v Saval) there will be a meeting for anyone needing to complete registration and to organise help for the bottom of the mountain on the day.
