As an 11-year-old Darragh McGarry helped Henry Shefflin raise the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2007 and yesterday he retraced those steps on his way to lift the All-Ireland club JHC trophy.
It was an iconic image from six years ago as the emotion of the occasion was there for all to see. Darragh's mother Vanessa, wife of Kilkenny goalkeeper James, had lost her life in a road accident just weeks earlier and the GAA family stood with the McGarry's at their time of need.
Darragh, following in his father's goalkeeping footsteps, was in goals as Thomastown defeated Fullen Gaels of Warwickshire after extra time in Croke Park on Sunday.
