Former Westmeath footballer Martin Flanagan is the new manager of the county's Ladies team.

Flanagan takes over from former county team mate Alan Mangan, who he worked with as selector in 2012.

The Tyrrellspass clubman was arguably one of the finest forwards to don the county jersey over the years, but injury played havoc with his career, especially in latter years.

Flanagan has yet to confirm his backroom team, but he admitted to the Westmeath Independent that he was looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"It's a fair challenge for me, but the players are great," said Flanagan. "Their commitment to training and the hard work they put in is exceptional, and they do anything that is asked of them." Tweet
