Conlon eager to revive Derry career

Ballinderry and Derry keeper Michael Conlon.
Mickey Conlon is hoping to earn a recall to the Derry football panel under new manager Brian McIver.

The vastly-experienced goalkeeper hasn't pulled on a county jersey since picking up an injury in last year's Ulster SFC clash with Fermanagh, but admits the prospect of linking up with his former Ballinderry manager is very appealing.

"I suppose Brian getting the job did help (him to consider returning)," he said in The Irish News.

"You always want to play when you're fit and when your family life allows you to. It's always nice to push yourself that bit more. Your career is short enough and you'd want your kids to see you playing at the highest level.

"If Ballinderry are performing well and I'm performing well, you could use it as a springboard into the county team. That's the way I'm looking at it.

"I was delighted for Brian because he's been with us in Ballinderry at different times and we've had great success under him. It's great to see him get the opportunity to drive Derry forward because if anybody can do it, Brian can."
