Coolderry's quest for a three-in-a-row of Offaly SHC titles was ended in sensational fashion by St. Rynagh's in yesterday's quarter-final at St. Brendan's Park in Birr.

Runners-up to Loughgiel Shamrocks in the All-Ireland club final on St. Patrick's Day, Ken Hogan's charges could have no complaints after losing to the unheralded Banagher men on a 1-7 to 0-15 scoreline. Managed by Dinny Cahill, St. Rynagh's - who were well beaten by Belmont in the final group game - dominated from start to finish with Ger Scales, Gary Conneely and Stephen Quirke scoring 0-10 between them.

All of Coolderry's scores came from the stick of Brian Carroll. The county star registered their first point from play in the 53rd minute before grabbing a consolation goal in the final minute of normal time.

St. Rynagh's semi-final opponents will be Shinrone, who accounted for Seir Kieran on a 0-16 to 0-11 scoreline. The sides were level on 0-8 apiece at the break, but Joachim Kelly's charges upped the ante after the restart to reach the last four for the first time since 2005.

In the first two quarter-finals at O'Connor Park on Saturday evening, former kingpins Birr had to rely on first half goals from Dylan Hayden and Sean Ryan to overcome last year's intermediate champions Brosna Gaels by 2-9 to 0-12. Birr's semi-final opponents will be Kilcormac/Killoughey who hammered Belmont by 3-20 to 0-11 with county footballer Daniel Currams, Peter Geraghty and Trevor Fletcher accounting for the winners' goals.
