McGuinness plays down expectations

Donegal manager Jim McGuinness celebrates the Ulster final win with Brian McEniff
Jim McGuinness is adamant Donegal won't be burdened by the favourites' tag in Sunday's Ulster SFC opener against Cavan.

Just like last year when they ran out easy winners in Kingspan Breffni Park en route to a first Anglo-Celt Cup success in 19 years, Donegal will spend Saturday night in the luxurious Slieve Russell Hotel in Ballyconnell before travelling on to Cavan Town for the big match.

"We aren't thinking about retaining the Ulster championship," the Donegal manager told The Donegal Democrat.

"We're working off our own criteria. That criteria is based on Cavan, nothing else. There is a job to be done and we know what the job is.

"We know what we're working on and what direction we want to head in with the team. That's on-going and the Cavan game is our first day out so we can't expect it to be perfect. We're hoping that our attitude will be perfect to try to make it happen. Hopefully we can do that and then get an opportunity to fine tune it.

"We're back to square one now again and we're looking forward to the first hurdle. We won't look past that."
