Laois defend O'Moore Park

O'Moore Park, Portlaoise.
The fallout from the brawl between Dromid Pearses and Derrytresk should not affect O'Moore Park, according to Laois chairman Brian Allen.

The much publicised brawl which occurred during the All-Ireland club JFC semi final at the Portlaoise venue last weekend has started a debate over whether neutral games should be played at venues with no fencing around them.

The lack of stewards monitoring the sidelines at the game has been criticised in many quarters after team officials, substitutes and supporters became embroiled in a brawl just before half time.

However, Allen is confident that this was just a once off and stressed that the Laois county board should not suffer financially from last weekend's incident.

"This is an isolated incident, we host a lot of games in O'Moore Park and we've not had this with visiting teams," Allen stressed to the Leinster Express.

"I can't see it affecting us, we run our games very efficiently and people have always been impressed with how we host games."

Allen added that it's was not part of a steward's protocol to stop any rows and lain the blame firmly at the feet of the clubs involved.

"Voluntary stewards are not expected to stop a fight when it starts, clubs are responsible for their players and officials and there are rules and regulations in place for that."
