Brennan wasn't counting his medals

Kilkenny's Eddie Brennan
Eddie Brennan says the number of All-Ireland medals he collected was never a motivation.

'Fast Eddie' announced his retirement from intercounty hurling over the weekend, having collected an incredible eight All-Ireland SHC souvenirs. But the 33-year-old Garda told The Kilkenny People that hunger for a ninth medal wasn't an issue for him:

"It was a big shout to make to give up. The goalposts in life change; that can be a factor.

"There were a good few factors involved - a bit of everything - before I came to the final decision.

"To be honest, the nine, or how many medals I did - or might - win was never a motivation.

"It was never about how many I could get my hands on. It is hard to credit that we have eight. That is mental stuff, really. That didn't come into it."
