Waterford GAA mourns Johnny Joy
December 12, 2011
Waterford GAA is in mourning after the tragic death of Johnny Joy from the Kilmacthomas club.
The 20-year-old dual star was electrocuted in a freak accident while showering in his home on Saturday afternoon.
A popular young man in his community, Johnny played football and hurling with Kilmacthomas and a spokesperson from the club explained that many of his friends turned out at the local GAA grounds yesterday to pay tribute to him.
"Johnny was a good humoured guy who was always smiling," she stated.
"He played full-back with the Under 21 football squad last year and would have been known as one of the anchor men of the team. One word that has been used time and time again to describe Johnny is that he was a gentleman.
"He will be very sadly missed by all, and on behalf of the club we would like to extend our sincere sympathies to the family."
Gardai in Tramore have been investigating the incident after being called to the domestic residence on Saturday evening.
