Violence spreads to stand in Tyrone league final
November 13, 2011
A melee in the Tyrone league final between Dromore and Carrickmore spread to spectators in the stand in Dunmoyle earlier today.
Dromore claimed a league and championship double with a 0-11 to 0-6 victory but a free for all developed in the closing stages with opposing fans also coming to blows. The BBC reports that 'blood was spilled' in the stands.
Tyrone PRO admitted that the scenes "were not pleasant viewing."
County chairman Ciaran McLaughlin was also dismayed at the developments.
"When something happens outside the perimeter of the field, and spectators become involved, it is very serious," the Tyrone chairman told the BBC.
Two Carrickmore players were sent off before play resumed.
The Tyrone CCC are now set to launch an investigation into the incidents.
Tyrone County Board have gone on to make the following statement:The Tyrone County Board wish to confirm that an investigation into the incidents surrounding the O'Neills Division 1 League final has already begun. The Tyrone Competitions Control Committee (CCC) will review the full *match report from the referee and will also review video evidence of the game.
The Tyrone County Board condemn unreservedly the actions of those people involved in fighting in the crowd. There is no place for scenes such as these in our games.
