Carrig' not finished yet

Carrigtwohill captain's Michael Fitzgerald and Brian Lordan lifts the trophy
Carrigtwohill selector Seanie Barrett insists the new Cork hurling champions have no intention of resting on their laurels.

Having ended a 93-year wait for county senior honours last month, Carrig are now focused on doing the Rebel County proud when they face Clare kingpins Crusheen in Sunday's AIB Munster club SHC quarter-final.

"Winning the Cork senior title was a massive achievement for Carrigtwohill," Barrett told the Irish Examiner.

"But next Sunday is like another county final for us again, that's the way we have to treat it. Newtownshandrum are the only Cork club team since Midleton in 1987/88 to have gone on and won an All-Ireland - in fact they're also the only Cork club to have won in Munster since then. We're very conscious of that, we'll be putting our best foot forward. The county isn't enough for us, we want to go on and do a lot better."

Barrett believes Crusheen will be out to prove a point after making an early exit from last year's provincial championship at the hands of Kilmallock.

"All I know is that the team we're playing on Sunday, Crusheen, have just put two counties back-to-back, and that's a serious achievement in any hurling county. They were beaten in the first round in Munster last year by Kilmallock and they were very disappointed with that.

"Their first comment after winning the county a few weeks ago was that this year they were determined to make up for that disappointment - that shows how seriously they're taking this."
