All-Ireland football final stats
September 19, 2011
After a 16-year wait, Dublin are back as GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Champions, following a dramatic victory (1-12 to 1-11) over Kerry in Sunday's final in Croke Park.
It was Dublin's 23rd All-Ireland win and was achieved in a storming finish where they wiped out Kerry's four point lead after 63 minutes to win by a point. A goal by sub Kevin McManamon launched the Dublin comeback and the winning point was kicked by goalkeeper, Stephen Cluxton from a free deep in stoppage time
Bernard Brogan was Dublin's top scorer on 0-6 while Colm Cooper kicked 1-3 for Kerry, who trailed by a point (0-6 to 1-2 at half-time).
Watched by a crowd of 82,300, the 61st Football Championship game of the season lived up to all expectations as two sides that had remained unbeaten in the provinces produced a fascinating contest. In the end, Dublin did enough to win the day, taking Sam Maguire back to the Capital for the first time since 1995.
There was joy too for Tipperary minors who, like the Dublin seniors, came from behind to win, beating Dublin, 3-9 to 1-14. A great goal by sub, Colman Kennedy late on secured victory for Tipperary, whose only previous All-Ireland minor success was in 1934.
