Waterford manager Davy Fitzgerald celebrates with Michael Walsh and Noel Connors after the win over Limerick
Davy Fitzgerald's spell as Waterford manager has come to an end after Waterford county board confirmed he will not seek another term.
Earlier in the day a number of sources in the Deise County indicated that the former Clare All-Ireland winning goalkeeper would no longer continue in the role, but offical confirmation only came late in the evening.
Fitzgerald took the helm at the county in June 2008 after Justin McCarthy left the position mid-season, and went on to guide Waterford to a place in the All-Ireland final that year.
Waterford claimed Munster honours in 2010 but fell to a 7-19 to 0-19 defeat to Tipperary in this year's provincial decider, a result that put the manager under intense pressure.
The process to appoint Fitzgerald's successor will be discussed at Monday's county board meeting.
With vacant positions in Limerick, Clare and Wexford, Fitzgerald could easily return to intercounty management in the coming months.
