Canning back for Galway

June 16, 2011

Joe Canning of Galway
Joe Canning is back in the Galway starting XV for Saturday's Leinster SHC semi-final against Dublin.

It will be the Portumna sharpshooter's first competitive start of the year for the Tribesman, having missed all but the last game of the NHL (against Waterford) due to a foot injury. A hamstring injury confined him to the role of impact sub against Westmeath a fortnight ago when Galway came perilously close to suffering a shock Leinster SHC first round defeat.

Canning is recalled to the team along with Shane Kavanagh and Tony Og Regan in defence, and Eanna Ryan in attack. All four are retained after coming off the bench against Westmeath with Johnny Coen, Kevin Hynes, John Lee and Andy Smith the players to make way.

Key forwards Iarla Tannian and Ger Farragher remain sidelined through injury.

Galway (SH v Dublin): J Skehill; D Joyce, D Collins, F Moore; S Kavanagh, T Og Regan, A Cullinane; B Daly, D Burke; E Ryan, C Donnellan, J Gantley; D Hayes, J Canning, A Callanan.
