Carlow star Smith banned for four months

Carlow's JJ Smith
JJ Smith could miss Carlow's entire championship campaign after being hit with a whopping 16-week ban.

The Rathvilly clubman was sent off against Longford in a NFL Division 4 clash on March 13 for an alleged head-butting offence and an eight-week suspension was duly proposed by the CCCC. He originally requested a personal hearing, but has now decided not to appeal.

And if that wasn't bad enough, his suspension was automatically doubled after it came to light that he was also red-carded in last year's All-Ireland qualifier against Derry in Dr. Cullen Park.

Smith will now miss Sunday week's Leinster SFC quarter-final against Louth in O'Moore Park and a potential provincial semi-final or All-Ireland qualifier on the weekend of June 25-26.
