Mayo plan adopted

May 19, 2011
The Mayo county board's revised Mayo Strategic Vision and Action Plan was accepted without a vote at last night's meeting in Castlebar.

Earlier this week, Mayo Strategic Action Plan Steering Committee chairman Liam Horan had criticised the county board for refusing to accept his committee's recommendations and disassociated himself from the board's own strategic plan.

The former Irish Independent GAA correspondent claimed that "five-and-a-half" of the Steering Committee's seven recommendations were omitted from a plan that is "without soul or heart", and warned that Mayo football will continue to under-perform if the county board plan is pushed through.

The revised plan - which ignored Horan's call for a financial audit and the establishment of two full-time positions - was described as bereft of "big dramatic ideas" by Burrishoole's Pat McManamon and lacking in financial detail by Ballinrobe delegate Alan Flannery, but was passed nevertheless.
