Legendary GAA broadcaster Seán Óg Ó Ceallacháin said his last "Go mBeannaí Dia díobh go léir" to his "cairde Gael" listeners last night and signed off after 63 years of broadcasting.

Ó Ceallacháin delivered a comprehensive round-up of Gaelic football and hurling results from all over Ireland on RTÉ Radio and for generations of GAA supporters his voice was the soundtrack to Sunday nights.

A Limerick native, Ó Ceallacháin began working in RTÉ in 1948 when he joined his father of the same name on the programme - broadcasting as Gaeilge - and he ultimately took over the show in 1953.

For more than six decades his gentle tone took listeners from parish to parish across the country and kept them updated with results from GAA games each week.

Last night Ó Ceallacháin bade farewell, as RTÉ Sport calls time on its results service, having secured his place in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest-serving sports broadcaster.

Yesterday afternoon Taoiseach Enda Kenny paid tribute to Ó Ceallacháin saying that there was music in his voice.

You can hear Seán Óg's final broadcast here.
