Croke Park
Two goals in the last six minutes earned Gallen CS a dramatic win over defending champions Clonakilty CC in the All-Ireland Vocational Schools' football final at Croke Park on Saturday afternoon.
Gallen CS 2-11
Clonakilty CC 1-8

It was a remarkable result for the Ferbane, Co Offaly based school as they game looked to be heading for a draw after the two sides had given it their all for sixty minutes, but goals from Aaron McDonagh and Eoghan Lowry sealed the victory for Gallen CS.

The defending champions got off to a better start and they kicked four unanswered points through the boots of Fiachra O'Connell, Cillian Cullinane (2), and Finbarr Butler to give them the perfect start and settle any early nerves.

Nonetheless, Gallen hit back with two fine points from Brian Grehan to narrow the gap, but Clonakilty took control once again in the 24th minute when Gearoid Barry scored a good goal. Then minutes later, Gallen were awarded a penalty, but unfortunately for Grehan his effort was wide of the post to leave the half time score 1-4 to 0-3.

Points from Eoghan Lowry, Joe Maher (2), and McDonagh in the third quarter leveled matters and this set up a tense final ten minutes as both sides looked for the crucial scores to edge in front. Clonakilty did take the lead, but two quick fire goals by McDonagh and Lowry sealed the victory for Gallen CS.
