NFL 2: Molloy downs Tyrone

February 20, 2011

Donegal's Dermot Molloy
Donegal 1-10
Tyrone 0-6

Substitute Dermot Molloy sealed an impressive victory for Donegal as Tyrone fell to a second successive Allianz National Football League defeat at Omagh.

Molloy came off the bench to score 1-2 for the winners, including the match-turning goal early in the second half.

For Tyrone, who had gone down by a point to Derry in their opening game, this defeat leaves them facing a mammoth task to bridge the gap back to Division 1 this year.

The sides were level at the break (0-5 apiece) after an evenly contested opening period but Donegal dominated throughout the second 35 minutes, in which the home side managed just a single score.

Indeed, Red Hand manager Mickey Harte will be keen to get to the bottom of his side's collapse from a position which saw them lead 0-4 to 0-1 after 20 minutes but score just two points in the final 50-plus minutes.

Michael Murphy, from play and a free, edged Donegal level and Leo McLoone got forward to put Donegal in front for the first time before Martin Penrose's third free of the half drew the sides level at the change of ends.

But it was all Donegal after the restart, with Molloy firing to the net in the 39th minute, and the substitute, Murphy and Colm McFadden were all in point-scoring form before the finish with Tyrone's sole response coming from a Sean Cavanagh free.

Donegal now sit atop Division 2 with three points from two games, although they could be knocked off their perch come Sunday afternoon.
