The late Paddy Spellman
December 20, 2010
Former Offaly and Leinster hurling star Paddy Spellman will be laid to rest in Dublin this morning.
A native of Birr, Paddy also played for many years with Faugh's in Templeogue. He continued to line out for Offaly after moving to the capital where he worked for the Bank of Ireland and represented the Faithful County over three decades.
He was corner back on the Offaly team which suffered a narrow defeat to Kilkenny in the 1969 Leinster final. Another 11 years would pass before the midlanders finally made the breakthrough at provincial level.
Husband of Monica and father of Linda, Tony and Ann, Paddy's funeral will take place at Mount Venus Cemetery in Tallaght after 11 o'clock Mass this morning.
