Athletic Grounds naming rights up for grabs
December 13, 2010
The Armagh county board are to sell the naming rights for the new-look Athletic Grounds, which is due to open in February.
Over the past number of years, the Armagh city venue has been redeveloped into a 19,500-capacity stadium that includes a 5,600-seater stand and a covered terrace accommodating 2,500 spectators.
"We are offering a great opportunity for a brand to be associated with what will be one of the top sporting venues in Ireland," 'My Armagh' development body chairman Paul Kelly said.
Armagh's first match at the new stadium will be against Dublin in the opening round of the National League on February 5, which is expected to be a sell-out.
Other features in the £4.5m development are dressing rooms, medical facilities, 36 turnstiles and improved access for disabled spectators.
Kelly added: "The stadium will be the home of major National League, Ulster and All-Ireland qualifiers matches for football and hurling. It will also host, through time, hundreds of club championship games at all levels for football, hurling and camogie."
Armagh are the second county board in Ulster to sell the naming rights for their county grounds. Cavan sold the naming rights of Breffni Park to local insulation company Kingspan a decade ago.
