Divilly slams Murphy abuse

Carlow's Brendan Murphy
The abuse that Carlow footballer Brendan Murphy receives from his own supporters is unacceptable according to former Galway All-Ireland winner John Divilly.

Murphy was the target of abuse from supporters at last Sunday's county final defeat to Old Leighlin and Divilly, who is a selector with Rathvilly admits to being shocked by the abuse that the former Sydney Swans player receives.

"I think people in Carlow don't appreciate Brendan Murphy and what he's doing for Carlow football. My biggest regret throughout the whole year is the amount of abuse he received this year," said Divilly.

"If Carlow are going to improve and hopefully win a Leinster they are going to need him, but I know for a fact that in Galway we would never abuse a county player with such talent the way some people abuse Brendan in Carlow. I really hope that ends soon.

"He's a big guy he can handle himself but it's unfair to expect him to turn it on for Rathvilly and get abuse and then go in and turn it on for Carlow."
