Carlow's Alan Curran
Carlow and Eire Og football star Alan Curran is said to have made a miraculous recovery from a horrific brain injury he sustained outside a bar in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 26-year-old half back hit his head off the ground and feel unconscious after being assaulted outside the Med Bar on Carlow's Main Street. He was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny where he was diagnosed with a brain bleed.

But within 36 hours of sustaining the horrific injury the young schoolteacher was able to sit up in bed and speak on the phone.

His sister Regina told The Irish Daily Star: "Alan suffered a fractured skull and was left bleeding from the brain after the assault.

"But somehow he managed to come through it without any major procedures. The doctors did checks on him every hour yesterday and he just kept improving. Thank God there was no swelling to the brain and with rest the thing just seemed to be righting itself."
