Gareth 'Magic' Johnson grabbed 2-5 as Ballygalget cruised to a 12-point victory over holders Ballycran in yesterday's Down SHC final at Portaferry.

Played before a 4,000-strong crowd, the final was a one-sided affair with Ballygalget always in control. The exchanges had been close until midway through the first half when Conor Doran netted Ballygalget's first goal before Johnston added a second two minutes later to give them a 2-11 to 0-8 lead at the interval.

Any hope the champions had of getting back into the game was ended within four minutes of the restart when Johnson bagged his side's third goal and Danny Toner and Stephen Clarke followed up with points to make it 3-13 to 0-8.

Aidan Clarke pulled back a goal for Ballycran, but Ballygalget replied with four unanswered points to seal a comfortable win. Tweet
