An impressive trophy cabinet including five Munster titles, an All Ireland medal, an All Star award and a National League title make Billy Morgan one of Cork's greatest football servants not to mention his successes during his three stints as Cork Football manager.
Billy played as centre forward for Cork minor team before moving to his favoured position of goalkeeper for the Cork u/21 side; his senior debut would come in 1966 in the Munster Championship. In 1973 Billy became the first Nemo Rangers man to captain Cork winning his fourth Munster title that year before lifting the Sam Maguire that autumn- the first Cork man to do so since 1945. He also became the only goalkeeper to the awarded the Tesco Footballer of the Year award.
For his last senior inter-county season Morgan took on the dual role of player manager, a role he would return to in 1986 and where he would remain for a decade leading the Rebels to All Ireland success in '89 and '90.
Billy entered his third tenure as Cork manager in 2003 where he would remain until 2007.
Will Curley, CEO, MBNA Ireland said:
