Cork's hurling revival continued apace at Pairc Ui Chaoimh last night when Waterford were easily disposed of in a one-sided Bord Gais Energy Munster U21HC quarter-final.

Boasting seven survivors from the side which reached last year's provincial decider, Waterford were expected to provide a strong challenge for Ger Fitzgerald's charges, but despite lining out without Aidan Walsh who now looks set to start for the Cork footballers against Kerry on Sunday, the Rebels proved much too strong for the visitors.

Cork laid the foundations for their victory in the first half when they built up a 0-7 to 0-1 interval lead. Indeed, it would have been further ahead but for 12 wides. Corner forward Ryan Clifford impressed with four first half points with Cian McCarthy also chipping in with a brace from centre forward.

Five minutes after the restart, both sides were reduced to 14 players when McCarthy and Waterford's Owen Whelan were both shown straight red cards following an altercation.

Cork continued to dominate, however, and stretched their lead through points from Seamus Farrell (two) and James Nagle before substitute Michael O'Sullivan wrapped up the win. Brian O'Sullivan managed a late consolation goal for a desperately disappointing Waterford side who were never in contention.
