Muldoon suffers further injury setback

Derry's Enda Muldoon
Enda Muldoon is facing a six-month layoff after breaking a bone in his foot for the third time in 15 months. The 32-year-old Derry forward fractured the same metatarsal bone which ruled him out of last year's championship while training with the county squad this week and will undergo surgery in the coming days. As well as missing Derry's McKenna Cup and National League campaigns, the 2004 All-Star will miss the Ballinderry club's charity trip to Tanzania. Muldoon was due to travel to Africa next week. Muldoon broke the same bone on the eve of his club's Ulster club final replay against Crossmaglen in December 2008, and suffered the same injury before Derry's Ulster championship opener against Monaghan last May. Despite this latest blow, the Ballinderry man hasn't given up hope of forcing his way back into Damian Cassidy's plans for the summer. "We were doing a drill at training over in Magherafelt and I was turning, whatever way I turned I just heard the crack. I knew straight away I'd broke it again," he said. "I'm hoping to come back anyway. It's maybe going to be hard to get back but I'll try my best. "If it doesn't happen I'll have to call it a day. Whether I play for Derry again depends on my fitness but I'm going to do my best to get fit again."
