Stradbally gunning for revenge
November 21, 2009
Waterford champions Stradbally will have revenge on their minds when they face Kilmurry-Ibrickane in tomorrow's Munster club football semi-final at Dungarvan.
Club stalwart Tom Cunningham, who is being tipped to succeed Pat Flynn as Waterford chairman at next month's county convention, says Stradbally haven't forgotten their controversial Munster final defeat to the Clare champions five years ago.
"We were denied victory in the drawn game in Semple Stadium by an erroneous umpiring decision which resulted in a legitimate point being waved wide on us," he recalled.
"To add to our misery, we narrowly lost the replay in Kilmallock. There are ghosts from five years ago that need to be exorcised."
He continued: "Sunday's game then takes on an even greater importance from our perspective. But we will be the rank outsiders against a team that defeated the Munster champions (Drom-Broadford). We surprised a lot of people, however, in defeating the Nire in our own county final, and we are well capable of bringing off another surprise on Sunday if things go our way."
Stradbally go into tomorrow's game without the services of All-Star hurler Michael 'Brick' Walsh, Ger Power and Emmett Cummins.
