Kennedy takes charge of Kerry under 21s

Former Kerry Under 21 manager John Kennedy
Former star forward John Kennedy has been appointed Kerry under 21 football manager for the coming season. The ex-Clare senior boss spent four years managing the Kerry minors before stepping down in the wake of last August's All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Armagh. Kennedy failed to deliver an All-Ireland title during his time in charge, though he came close in 2006 when the Kingdom lost the All-Ireland final to Roscommon after a replay. Kennedy will be familiar with most, if not all, of next year's under 21 squad, having already managed them at minor level. Kerry were hammered by Cork in this year's Munster under 21 championship, and will be hoping for much better next year. Meanwhile, Ardfert's Pat O'Driscoll has been named as Kerry minor manager in succession to Kennedy. He enjoyed much success as Ardfert manager, taking them from Division 5 to Division 1 in the league and astonishingly winning the All-Ireland junior and intermediate crowns in successive seasons (2007 and 2008). Remarkably, Kerry have gone 15 years without winning the Tom Markham Cup, but O'Driscoll will be aiming to put that right in 2010.
