Waterford SFC: Stradbally regain title
November 02, 2009
Stradbally claimed their 15th Conway Cup following a two-point victory over holders Nire in a thrilling Waterford SFC final at Fraher Field, Dungarvan.
Stradbally.2-5
Nire..0-9
Nire played with the aid of a strong wind in the first half, but despite enjoying the lion's share of possession, were locked together with the tenacious opponents at the interval. The holders led 0-5 to 0-2 before Eddie Rockett goaled for Stradbally late in the first half and the teams were level on 1-3 to 0-6 at the break.
Nire regained the lead on the restart through David Ryan, but poor defending allowed Stradbally's Robert Ahearne to fist home a 45th minute goal for the challengers. That put Stradbally 2-3 to 0-7 in front, and they went on to seal victory through Trevor Curran's late point.
