Shinty stars are tougher than hurlers - Walsh

Kilkenny's Tommy Walsh
Hurler of the Year Tommy Walsh is looking forward to Saturday afternoon's hurling/shinty international joust in Inverness - but he believes the Scottish game is physically tougher than hurling. Walsh, who first played for the international team a year ago at Nowlan Park, captains the Irish side into action today. And the Kilkenny superstar admits that he will be packing the protective gear before he takes to the field. He told the Irish Sun: "Last year was my first time playing it - you would want to bring shin-guards though, they're a lot tougher than hurlers." And Walsh, who won his seventh consecutive All Star award earlier this month and is the only Kilkenny player on the team, is looking forward to standing shoulder to shoulder with fellow Irishmen who he would not normally get the chance to meet. "It is good to meet up with our lads as well," he said. "I think we have four MacCarthy Cup players and then the rest are made up of the Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher [teams] so we would never really get the chance to meet those players."
