It may have taken two replays and two periods of extra-time, but Ballyboden St. Enda's eventually broke their southside rivals' spirit at the third time of asking to qualify for Sunday's Dublin SFC decider against near-neighbours St. Jude's.
Paddy Carr's Crokes team looked set for victory when they lead by two points with as minutes remaining, but they were sensationally pegged back by 'Boden points from Kenny Naughton and outstanding wing back Dara Nelson to force extra-time yet again.
And in the additional 20 minutes, 'Boden outscored the champions by 0-7 to 0-4 to claim a famous victory.
The reintroduced full forward Kenny Naughton led the way with the opening score of extra-time. Conal Keaney and Andrew Kerins both pointed twice to extend the challengers' lead, and after Crokes tried to launch one last fightback, county hurler Simon Lambert finished them off with a last-gasp insurance point.
Crokes actually started the brighter, hitting four points in the opening six minutes. They led by 0-6 to 0-4 at half-time and when Ray Cosgrove scored a fortuitous goal six minutes after the restart to make it 1-7 to 0-4, the All-Ireland champions appeared to be coasting.
But despite being outplayed, 'Boden refused to wilt and scored five unanswered points to force extra-time.
