Ahane's Ollie Moran
Ollie Moran has brought the curtain down on his 12-year Limerick senior hurling career. News of the 33-year-old's retirement comes as no surprise after he had indicated at the start of the season that this would be his last in the green jersey. Despite ranking alongside the likes of Ciaran Carey and Gary Kirby as one of Limerick's best hurlers of the past 20 years, he retires without winning a Munster or All-Ireland medal. The Ahane clubman made his senior debut for the Treaty County in 1997 and finished his debut season with a National League medal. A decade passed before he finally played in an All-Ireland final, which Limerick lost to Kilkenny. His performances in 2007 didn't go unnoticed to the All-Star selectors, however, who honoured him with his first award at centre forward. At club level, he won Limerick SHC medals in 1998, '99 and 2004. He also won five Inter-provincial medals with Munster. Last night, the Limerick county board paid tribute to the popular financial services executive. "It is with regret that the Limerick County GAA Board have been informed of a decision by our senior hurling star Ollie Moran to retire from inter-county Hurling after a long and distinguished career. "Ollie is one of life's gentlemen and on behalf of the Board, wish Ollie, his wife, Lisa and baby son, David, the very best of luck in his retirement."
