Armagh SFC: Cross' still the team to beat
August 17, 2009
Long-time champions Crossmaglen Rangers are safely through to the Armagh SFC quarter-finals following a 3-19 to 0-6 hammering of Tir na nOg at the Athletic Grounds.
Last season's beaten All-Ireland club finalists showed why they will once again the team to beat in the Orchard County with a devastating display. Goals from Aaron Cunningham and Jamie Clarke eased them into a 2-8 to 0-2 half-time lead and they could afford to substitute Oisin McConville, Tony Kernan and Clarke before Cunningham bagged their third goal with 13 minutes to go.
Crossmaglen's last-eight opponents will be Pearse Og, who they defeated in last year's county final. The Clarke brothers, Conor and Ronan, scored 0-9 between them as the Ogs got the better of Carrickcruppen by 1-14 to 0-10.
Granemore will face the winners of Killeavy and St. Patrick's after their shock 0-14 to 1-9 win over Dromintee, while Whitecross recorded their first senior championship victory in over 100 years at Maghery's expense (2-11 to 0-12) to set up a quarter-final meeting with Clann Eireann.
Clan na Gael's 0-11 to 0-9 victory over Mullaghbawn sees them through to a meeting with Armagh Harps.
