Fitzgerald and Clancy return for Galway

July 22, 2009

Galway's Mathew Clancy
Kieran Fitzgerald and Matthew Clancy have been drafted into the Galway team for Saturday's All-Ireland football qualifier against Donegal at Markievicz Park. Former All-Star Fitzgerald replaces Niall Coyne at right corner back, while Clancy indirectly replaces Gary Sice in attack. Clancy was unable to start last Sunday's Connacht SFC final loss to Mayo due to injury, but did make a late appearance as a replacement for Gareth Bradshaw. Manager Liam Sammon has also made a couple of positional changes which see Niall Coleman switching from wing forward to midfield with Paul Conroy going in the opposition direction, and Sean Armstrong moving out to right half forward with Clancy coming in at top of the right. Galway (SF v Donegal): A Faherty; K Fitzgerald, F Hanley, D Burke (captain); G Bradshaw, D Blake, D Meehan; J Bergin, N Coleman; S Armstrong, P Joyce, P Conroy; M Clancy, M Meehan, N Joyce.
