Dubs suffer Gough blow

Dublin's Oisin Gough
Dublin's hopes of progressing beyond the All-Ireland SHC quarter-final stage have been hit by an injury to their young corner back Oisin Gough. The Cuala clubman suffered a broken thumb during Wednesday night's Leinster U21 HC final defeat to Kilkenny at Parnell Park, and is facing up the six weeks on the sidelines. That would also make him doubtful for a possible All-Ireland semi-final joust with Tipperary on August 16. Fellow senior Simon Lambert also suffered a knee injury in the under 21 decider, but it is not believed to be serious. Gough could be replaced by the fit-again Ronan Fallon in a re-jigged defence for the All-Ireland quarter-final against either Limerick or Laois on the weekend after next. The star centre back played 30 minutes of a challenge match against Offaly last weekend, and is expected to be available for the last eight clash. Former Limerick player Maurice O'Brien could also be in contention for a place in defence.
