Wee chief wants Murphy Cup reprisal
July 02, 2009

Louth County Board Chairman Paddy Oliver
Louth County Board chairman Paddy Oliver has called for the Tommy Murphy Cup to be resurrected.
The competition proved extremely unpopular with the weaker counties during its previous incarnation, but Oliver is adamant that the lesser lights - including his own Louth - should accept their medicine:
"Not alone are Louth in trouble with football, but 20 other teams are as well. I think there are a good 16-20 teams way off the pace required for the All-Ireland.
"At least if they were playing in the Tommy Murphy Cup, then they have a chance of winning it.
"It's crazy to think that all 32 counties are in the one grade in football, whereas there are four systems in hurling.
"It says a lot that all of the teams in Division Three went out of their respective championships tamely, with the exception of Limerick - and they beat another Division Three team to get where they are."
